PBNU strongly condemns the illegal attack that violates international law and humanity, Hasyim Muzadi told reporter at PBNUs Building, Jln Kramat Raya 164 Central Jakarta, Monday (17/7).
According to Hasyim, Israeli aim of its operations to free its internees to attack Lebanon was unreasonable for the targets of the attack for the last several days have extended to anywhere and have claimed many casualties.

PBNU to Condemn Israeli Raid on Lebanon
The focus that (Israeli troops) has been attacked was out of the real target. So this has not aimed at freeing the internees anymore, said the leader of Al-Hikam Pesantren (Islamic Boarding School), Malang, East Java.Hasyim argued that the firm attitude of the PBNU to reject Israeli raid on Lebanon was absolutely reasonable for justice and peace around the world. NU as a mass organization upholding justice, he added, has always cracked down on injustice and oppression.
People need not to be fundamentalists to reject the attack. Just by the inner, the people can reject it, Hasyim said.

As the Secretary General of the International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS) as held at Jakartas Borobudur Hotel last month, Hasyim also instructed all participants from 53 countries to make such efforts as part to reduce international crisis between Israel and Lebanon.To participants or members of ICIS, I expect to undertake such legal efforts in accordance with international law and humanity, say that moral, economic assistance and to approach the United Nations, Hasyim argued.
At the same time, Hasyim also urged President Susilo Bambang Yudoyono (SBY) to crack down on injustice as launched by Israel. In this case, the government should be in a voice with majority of Indonesians that strongly condemning the Israeli action on Lebanon. The governments attitude may not differ from the majority of Indonesias people, said Hasyim. (rif)
